In a first for the Annuals sector, Pedigree Books has collaborated with Zappar, the leader in Augmented Reality (AR) enabled products and entertainment experiences, to produce a range of AR titles. The books are being sold as ‘Super Interactive Annuals 2014’ and will be available from Thursday 1st August from Asda, WH Smith, Tesco and many more stores.

By downloading the free Zappar app onto tablets and smartphones and pointing the device at selected pages, consumers will be able to access added features from their favourite annuals including Annoying Orange, Cut the Rope, Angry Birds and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Features will include brand new content such as extended character profiles, extra stories and activities including colouring, mazes, puzzles and a ‘make your own poster’ features. Although the titles can still be enjoyed as a traditional annual, around 20% of the pages have an ‘Exclusive Super Interactive Unlock’ icon that will add an exciting new dimension to the Annuals experience for Pedigree consumers.

Caspar Thykier, Founder and Managing Director of Zappar, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Pedigree to bring these fantastic brands to life through this new initiative and a new sector of us. We’ve used our Zappar platform to bring an extra dimension to the Annuals sector in a way that has never been seen before. We can’t wait to see what kids make of discovering these hidden bits of bite-sized entertainment.”

Matthew Reynolds, Publishing and Sales Director at Pedigree, added: “Working with Zappar on these new titles has allowed us to lead the way in the Annuals sector once again by offering our customers something completely new and fresh. We are very excited about the retail prospects for this range, which will stand out on the shelves and ensure we remain the market leader in Annuals.”
